Tomkins v Stones
|
Everton have rejected a 26M bid from Chelsea for Stones.
With this in mind how much do you think Tomkins is worth?

As he is English and James Chester has just gone for £8m I'd say you'd look at about £12m maybe. That Stones is a good player and says a lot about what is wrong with the game that Chelsea will pay £30m for a back up centre half til Terry retires.

Probably £12M, but wouldn't want to sell him!

Reckon there are a few claret tinted specs being worn here.
Mourinho knows a defender when he sees one, as not many teams have better defences than that Portuguese cunts at whatever team he's at, so I'm sure he's not bidding sillt money for Stones for no reason.
No chance we'd get near 10 million for Tomkins, he's not even a guaranteed starter for us.
6 or 7 mil for me.

So Tomkins is worth less than James Chester ?!?!
10-12....inflated due to him being English, but he is a good player

You actually think Tomkins, who was our best defender last season is worth less than Chester?
Really?

no claret tinted specs on me. james is a much better player than chester. £10m is a bargain if that cunt is worth £8m

I've not really been impressed that much by Stones. Decent young centre back and no more. Still there is usually method in Mourhinho's madness when he spends the Russian gangster's money.

Big season for Tomkins. More competition for places this year will hopefully kick him on to the next level.

He's a decent player all round but there isn't a certain part of his game that is truly outstanding to put him in the elite bracket of central defenders.
He is a good honest pro and probably ticks a 6 or 7 out of 10 in most areas his game. But to be a £20M + central defender you need to be ticking 8 or 9 out of 10 in most areas. If he had two or three England caps under his belt then his fee would rocket. Being that he is English and a good age, I'd suggest £8m - £12m at best.
The very best central defenders are usually commanding, vocal and lead their line, have pace or fantastic anticipation. The extra special ones have all of that but can bring the ball out to play and weigh in with goals - the Terry's, Ferdiand's, Vidic', Kompany etc.
Oxford has all the attributes at his age to tick many of these boxes. Unfortunately Tomkins doesn't. But he is a good player though.

Too be far to Stones i rate him highly, he seems a very good defender....but what sets him apart is his ability on the ball. His distribution is very good and he reads the game exceptionally well
